I trudge along a river bed,
void of life and the source of life,
and I ponder about this decayed world,
once lush and green and now dark and gray,
as I stand so alone in this lonely world,
I toss my head up to the birdless skies,
and listen to the skill of silence,
and laugh with realization as I fall knee deep in rot,
but what are we if not dust and shadows?
So I bury my tears and bury my fears
and continue to do what mankind did well,
Hope, I hope for a better world
and a better place and a better time
because hope burns like a bright star
in this lifeless dark world
